why do we jump at the chance to yammer on about our hammocks? Because hammocks, like bowties, are....cool.

    Cool

I don't go around telling people that I drive a minivan, but if I had a Porsche I would. Nobody comes back from Vegas and brags about how much they lost. And while I'd sound like an idiot telling people I'm related to my Mom, I will gladly stand and tell the whole world how proud I am to be married to a Russian spy.

In my case, I get asked. That said, I often talk about the merits of different tents/sleeping bags/pads with the other scout leaders. On scout trips, unless we are in a situation without trees (a camporee type situation), I'm in my hammock. Best sleep that I can get camping.

AHH, I remember that conversation with someone else, it was at Trail Days a few years ago. Groundling was adamant he would never give up his tent "EVER!!!"
Finally after day 3, he tried Coffee's hammock. That night was his last in a tent.
You guys know (Knew?) him as Cannibal.

As I don't do normal, I too tend to talk up hammocks, but usually only with other campers, not "normals" they are too weird for me!

I was polite, wished her well and welcomed her to try one out if she liked.

It was as if a hammock were unkind to her at some point during her childhood.

Well I don't read about t@#t sleepers going out and checking there gear at -20 or sleeping on a pad in the backyard just for the heck of it. Hammocking is just comfortable and fun. We look for reasons to go sleep in trees.
