    Superior Hiking Trail campsites

    Hey guys,

I've been on the SHT several times going usually from Lutsen ski area to Silver Bay. This is gonna be the first spring/summer/fall that I'm using a hammock. In the past I haven't really paid much attention to the trees in the campsites. Is there any campsites you've noticed that aren't the best or don't work with hammocks? My first trip this year is from otter lake trailhead to britton peak. Thanks for the help

    North Carlson Pond.

However, don't think of it that was because you can easily take a few steps down the trail and find a place with some trees. Just make sure you check for widow makers while you're out there. Have a great time.

Andy Creek has no possibilities for hanging in the site itself, but a very short (hundred yards?) bushwhack to the east will bring you to a very nice stand of mature cedars that's perfect.

The consensus is that you can pretty much hang at any site, with a few exceptions, but like stated above, you can always find a spot.

Keep in mind that if you hang somewhere other than an established campsite you may be trespassing on private land.

Just something to keep in mind.
If your lucky enough to be outdoors, your lucky enough!

That's true - try checking land ownership maps online ahead of time to know which ones are surrounded by public land.

The trail is pretty well marked, letting you know when you're entering private land. At least that has been my experience.

I was going to say that the SHT is in a MN forest so you don't have to worry about a lack of trees but I hiked a section last year where there was a good 1/4 mile of treelessness because they were all cut down. I was so sad to see such beauty just clearcut like that.

Yeah, a stretch of area between Gooseberry and Split Rock looks terrible with the clear-cut from a couple years ago.
