    tarp ridgeline length question

I am looking for a simple summer backpack tarp and not ready to pay for Cuben yet(but really want a camo one). for an 11' hammock, how bad would it be to have an 11' tarp? I was tossing up warbonnet edge and WL tadpole. tarps for size and price. if we get a nice windy rain here will it be enough coverage without doors? I am also of the mindset bigger is better, for coverage, but when on a 3-4 day backpacking trip, smaller pack space and lighter is my concern.

I would look at a Mamajamba. 2-3oz penalty for much better coverage. 11ft ridgeline will be fine for your hammock.

Do you use a ridgeline on the hammock? That will help get a consistent hang, and will reduce length under the tarp slightly.

I would even look at the superfly as you can tie back the doors but in sever blowing rain you can shut out the weather. Great on long treks.

I have an old man winter that I have used so far. 12' RL. but was looking to shed some weight. also need more tarps due to having 4 hammocks.
my main hammock are thunderbird (11') and soon to be darien (11') so yes to a SRL. I also have a switchback(10') which doesn't have a ridgeline
and for lounging an eno dbl nest but that doesn't count.

Mrprez has been making tarps for hf members. If you double the amount of sil you buy and sent it all to him he will make it like the diygear winter tarp. 12' rl should be about 18 yards x $5.50 a yard from diygear equals about $100. Thats a gear deal. And the doors are attached if you dont want doors , or with doors you think 11' is good then it will be cheaper. Shoot him a pm and see if he is still up for it.
My other suggestion is see if you have a group hang near you and head out and see if you can try some stuff out. See if you can mix and match tarps with your hammock. Or use a sheet and hang it over your hammock.
