    Mi>Pictured rocks>sept.>advice?

A buddy and I are planning to hike pictured rocks in September. Looking for advice....hammock friendly sites, water sources, experiences, etc. Its been quite a few years since I was up there and never with a hammock. Share your stories, mistakes, lessons learned etc.... We are looking to hike 14-18 miles Friday and Saturday and finish up on Sunday. Any experiences with the shuttle services up there? Thanks in advance for all the responses.

I have no experience with the shuttles but this seems to be a popular one...

Most sites are hammock friendly except for Benchmark, and even if it was I wouldnt stay there. Just an ugly site.
The map says that there is no water at Potato Patch, but last year there was a small stream and waterfall on the trail right before you head into camp. That might have just been last year, it may just be seasonal. I dont know your skill level but, 14-18 miles a day might be a little ambitious. Despite the maps and all, there are some pretty tough parts.

Ranger Brody will ask you how many tents that you have, we hesistated becasuse we had 4 hammocks, he looked at us with a smile and said, "Just say two."

Good luck and have a great time!

Yeah, that is the shuttle service I was looking at. Seems a bit pricey, but worth it split between a couple people.
My buddy will have completed a thru hike of the Long Trail a few weeks before this trip so he will be in fine shape....I'll manage. I hiked 18 miles on the Manistee River Trail in one day with a 40lb pack....I have significantly reduced my pack weight since then. I don't have any doubts in my ability....maybe i will after day one.

Between munising falls and hurricane river you should have not much trouble with hammocks. East or hurricane I cant say for sure, its been a while since I hiked that area. September can get pretty cold in the UP so bring some cooler wether stuff for sleeping. Also dont rely on having fires since there is only a few sites that allow fires.

I have been there probably 6 times and love the Pictured rocks, so beautiful. Enjoy and bring a camera for sure.

Yeah if he did the LT, this will be a walk in the park for him. You should be fine as well. It is not that bad, if you are good hiking shape.

Oh yeah, I am no stranger to MI, my last trip was about 6 weeks ago and it got down to 39 at night! I'm not planning on a fire either, just my alky stove. Thanks for the reply
