    If you use a channel end and run your suspension through it, or you use a bridge hammock, you're trusting a stitched seam to hold your weight.

    Yes, you could extend the hammock by stitching on extensions using a felled seam. I personally don't believe a triple stitch is needed, only double. The fabric is the most likely point of failure if you use good thread.

    Great video, great comparison using same camera angle on each hammock. I've made a 12' hammock recently and I have a HG 20* Phoenix 3/4 UQ. I think the suspension on my UQ is too short and I'm not sure how to fix it. Did you have to modify your UQ at all? Also, really nice to see the height difference and sag diff between the three hammocks.

    @Boston,

    Thanks, makes sense. The brain doesn't work as well as it was supposed to.

    Gutermann Tera 60/Tex 50 plays out of my machine--I expect it will hold nicely.

    There's no need to go making a bunch of different hammocks to try.

    Just make a really long one and try it and then move the whipping down a few feet and try it again.

    Actually, I seen no reason why you couldn't use something like a Klemheist knot on one side in place if the whipping so its super easy to adjust. I'm NOT suggesting you leave this one there (not without some sort of stopper) but just use it in the backyard long enough to try out different lengths and see where you light it.

    I tossed together a 13ft DL but didn't bother with a ridge line and didn't take the time to pull the corners out while whipping it.

    The result is much more comfortable than my shorter hammocks but even with that length you get a horrible ridge down the center if you don't do something to get rid of it.

    Without a ridge line to shorten it, it sticks out past the ends of my 11ft tarp too

    Well, most people don't generally use the last 1-1.5 feet of either end of a gathered end and similar style hammocks because the fabric is pulling together there towards a single point. But if you use grommets or other multiple anchor point systems you can effectively get a longer hammock without wasting fabric. So you don't necessarily need 12 feet of fabric.

    Similar results can be had with a channeled end and mini spreader bars.
    An added benefit of these methods is that it won't be as likely to gather rain from beyond the edge of your tarp

    Good one! Nothing beats data! Thanks for making the video.

    FWIW I wonder if the SRL's were optimized or it changing them a bit would help the knee ridge.
    YMMV
