    sleeping pad

not sure which pad will serve my purpose the best, closed cell, open cell, short, reg., long, what R#, will be doing thru hike AT next 3/1/09. I have HH and JRB UQ (will don't have uq yet, backordered). I have reg. thermarest prolite pad from my cycling tours and ground dwelling days, but would like to know if there is a better fit for warmth and comfort in the HH.
Thanks to all you experts. lol

With the under quilt you'll probably only need a pad that is torso length or so (personal preference comes into this of course!) for emergency ground bailing (pack goes under your legs) or if it gets REAL cold. Also as a "sit pad" pack frame, etc. I'd go with CCF because it's good for ground (unlike OCF). I've also seen a car windscreen covered with ripstop nylon, check out HitchHiking's gallery for that. The big advantage of the UQ is that you can't slip off it like you can off a pad. What are you planning to use as top insulation?
