    2014 Spring-MAHHA Pre-Hike from Quarry Gap

I am planning on pre-hiking from the Quarry Gap shelter on the AT into Pine Grove. The plan is to camp at Quarry Gap shelter on Thursday, April 24. Then, wake up at the bum crack of dawn on Friday and hike the AT up to Pine Grove for the MAHHA. My return hike will need to be on Sunday, the 27th.

I'm throwing this out there so others, who would like to join, have a place to plan for rides, etc.

    See ya in April!

I'd be interested in doing this, will be driving up from DC as well. Not so sure I want to hike back out on Sunday, though - maybe I would. Are you dead set on the two-way hike?

Uphill, not sure time will permit this for me, especially if I bring my boys, but what's the approx. mileage between the two?

It looks to be just over 15 miles from the road near Caledonia to the Appalachian Trail Museum near Pine Grove. Seems to be a pretty flat hike, only a few really tall climbs.

I am planning on the same NOBO hike. From the parking lot on Rt 3O, where I believe you are allowed overnight parking, the mileage is 19.9 to Pine Grove and 17.3 mile from Quarry
Gap (according to 2014 Thru Hikers Companion). Save me a spot (actually 2 trees) at Quarry Gap. It is a beautiful shelter.

I'm planning on driving up from Washington DC on Thursday afternoon. I figure I'll grab something to eat for dinner along the way so I can keep the setup/breakdown as minimal as possible Thursday/Friday.

We (my dog ben, Harleynemo and I, so far anyway) are hiking in from Gathland Md. starting on the 21st. I'm thinking we will see you/catch you all at Quarry gap shelter.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

I hope to hike in from Rte 30/Caledonia with Freia starting Wednesday afternoon, so two nights on the trail and a leisurely trip, arriving at the Family Campground at PGF around noon on Friday. Anyone interested in a carpool back to pick up vehicles late Friday or early Saturday? Must like dogs.

I'm definitely down to do the doggie carpool! I was trying to figure out how to get my car back to the campground from somewhere near Caledonia. I'll probably do the Thursday night to Friday evening hike in.

Good. We'll figure out something. I am operating on the assumption that it's unwise as well as not allowed to leave a dog tied at my campsite if I leave it. That means either I get a ride for me + dog to retrieve my car or I enlist a friend to dogsit for me.
