I do historical presentations. I have several historically correct wool blankets. Rob Stone makes the warmest, softest, historically accurate blankets out there. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for.

    Very nice.

My thought was to make an anorak. Was figuring after a little tlc, these would work. Maybe I'll stitch it with some artificial sinew...nah.

I intend to make or buy a wool poncho. This one looks nice: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-Alpaca-...-/360819344189

The Rothco wool blanket I saw recently at Sam's surplus store near Midland was $32.50. It was 70% wool and had a good nap but not sure how long it would last. Just not impressed with poncho liners.

FYI, I put an order in for a few of the large Bulgarian blankets from KeepShooting.com, but they e-mailed me a few days later saying they were actually out of stock. Maybe HF bought them out? I asked them if they knew when they will be back in stock, but no response yet. Edit: KeepShooting.com just responded to my e-mail - they should have more in stock in 4-6 weeks.

At least they updated the webpage - it had been reading as still available for a day or two after I ordered.

Looking for a wool blanket? Try auctions. They are an overlooked source of cheap bedding. 6-point hudson bay blanket cost me $110. ($310 new off the internet.) Got a fake hudson bay 3 1/2 point size for $20 Or try Craigs List. There are several for sale out of Minneapolis, but currently no bargains under $100. On the other hand there are some thick, heavy duty Swiss Army blue fleece sleeping bags available thru Mills Fleet Farm and other surplus dealers for around $20 that are fantastic.

Indeed, you are correct. I don't remember the exact statistics, but wool is warm, and keeps it warmth even when it's wet! However, it's pretty heavy. It depends on what you value more, warmth/wet warmth, or weight.
