Clark Ultralight Questions.

Hi Folks.... my father in law just purchased an Ultralight .
Hes really excited about it but neither of us know to awful much about this hammock.
I'm going to do some homework on it but I was wondering if anyone could maybe help me out a little.
He will be using it for hiking mostly.

Just curious what mods.... suspension or otherwise.... people recommend?

Will any particular underquilt fit it better or worse or does it matter?

Is it OK to install a ridge-line on this hammock? (it seems like the net would interfere.)

or anything else that we might not even know/be thinking about.

edit: I guess I should say that I haven't even seen it in person....just cursory internet searches.

Well, I used some shock cord (1/8 inch) to add a line with a ridge line bag that keeps the hoops upright when the weather shield and bug net are not in use. As for suspenshion I use rings and straps but might get some AHE Ulta Lite Cinch Buckle With Chain Link for 1 inch straps

Hes under the impression I think that this model doesn't come with the hoops or the weather shield.
Could be wrong.
Like I said I haven't seen it yet.
Ill have to tell him about the strap setup and the shock cord ridge-line though.

This is a favorite, no longer made. Whatever the included docs say, I urge a light line is string between trees to hold up hoods and netting that is zippered to them. Clark had the tarp hold up the hoods: too interdependent.

Don't hang too tight. Do discover that the bug netting itself reduces cooling.

Yes to under quilt. Simulate one with a lightweight indoor sham to learn how much heat is retained by it and lost without it.

I have had about 10 different hammocks from a half dozen different makers,....and the Clarks' Ultralight is my favorite of them all.

I replace the supplied ropes with DIY whoopies.
I have used both Underground Quilts and Hammock Gear underquilts. Both work fine with the Clarks.

As to your ridgeline question: I use a separate ridgeline and a HG cuben tarp.
Then I attach a short section of shock cord from the D-rings on the hood to prusiks on the ridgeline. It keeps the net up and away from my face.

If your question is in regard to hanging stuff inside the hammock, you can do that too. I run an internal ridgeline between the internal D-rings for the purpose of hanging convenience items, (flashlight, etc.).

No other hammock has all the features of a Clark. I have bought and sold most of the latest, greatest hot ticket items people rave about here. But I keep going back to Clarks. I think I finally learned my lesson.
