Buried in the snow on the Bloodroot Northern Indiana .

Homemade Hiker put together another weekend on the Bloodroot in Northern In . He warned me about the road in , but hey I got a four wheel drive right . ( wrong ) .

Lucky Davros had a Jeep to get me out or I may have had to camp til the melt down .

HH brought a bunch of gormet items like asparagus wrapped in bacon Garlic bread and steak ( looked like a meat ball to me ) I usually eat about 1/8 of a cow when I go for steak .

Davros built a snow fort / compound for he and I but HH has such a nifty little tarp he wanted to test the cold wind off the lake .

Lows of around 10 and highs in the low twentys or what the yoopers and Minnesota boys would call " Spring " .

    A bad start .

Trying to rock the truck out puts me on the trail after dark .

Even the wall for our fire reflector is made out of snow . Very handy stuff .

Riverjoes shelter in a bag . deployed in the 'COMPOUND '

looks like a good time Joe.i do not really consider any winter camp a success unless i am digging out or working on my truck in some fashion.

Actually the jeep rocked me enough I could get a chain on one back wheel and another on a front wheel ( I bought them before the winter camp out in Huron Natl forest Michigan . Up there the parking lot was plowed ), then she backed right out . Then we hiked back to camp and built the fire way up since we were all pretty soaked from the digging . All worked out fine

The new sleds worked great . Tandemized them for two reasons . One was if I got too whipped I could take the alpha sled into camp and set up , then I could go back and get bravo sled . Other reason was to keep the center of gravity low so I was'nt capsizeing all the time .
The boogie boards bungeed on the bottom made them so slippery it was great . I was trekking up dead mans bluff ( that what we call it ) and had to look back and make sure I still had two sleds .

It is a problem walking on the side of a hill however snce they're so slippery they go down hill at almost right angles to you , but I wasn't doing anything off trail so no problemo .

I also discovered that snow mobile tracks sure do make a differance . Night and day compared to Michigan . Didn't need snow shoes on the trek , just around camp .
