Question about Explorer Deluxe

I would have sworn that I saw a video once where they said it was to hold the netting back if you want to go topless. They just pulled it up over the net and hooked it to the side tieout on that same side. I haven't been able to find that video again though.

I've emailed this question to Hennessy. I have recently bought an Explorer UL, but didn't get the cords, just the rings.
But now that I know about the cords, I want them even though I don't know why.
Typical human nature, eh !

I use it to hold the netting back. My bubble pad rings do not line up with it and I too have always undertood it that the bubble pad needs to be below the hammock because of condensation issues. (Wake up in a puddle)

Hi Robert - Do you have the zip or classic Velcro version of the Explorer Ultralight? In the zip versions, the elastic cord with clip is meant to secure the bug mesh to that side opposite of the zipper if you want to open the hammock up. Once the bug mesh is unzipped and rolled up on the one side you can take that clip on the end of the bungee and attach it to the "o" ring on the outside of the hammock. This keeps the bug mesh in place quite well. In the classic version there are just the clips and the purpose is too hold one of our reflector pads in place if you choose to buy one. Donna is right on it is for the radiant pad to go under it and therefore helps keep it from sliding out from under you during the night. I guess if you use a thermorest you can use it to help hold that in place as well. However, I just taken it out altogether.

According to Picaro"s response from Hennessey, it depends on whether you have the zip or classic version. For zips, it's to hold the bug net back.

It actually says what it is on my Hennessy bag Elastic "hold open" for mesh, I guess I should have read the bag.

Hey rob, i did the same thing myself too, email hennessy as my mind couldn't sleep well with the vagueness

Mine is a zip version in the photos hence :

I use this bungee cord to clip it on the opposite side tie-out, on the inside plastic ring, it just goes up between the bug mesh and the ridgeline and down to the other ring. I noticed it helps with the balancing and also keeps the sides equally up toghether. Also I clip the mp3player on the right side of the cord, easier to operate than if hanging from the ridgeline where I already have too many things to hang (water bottle, knife, snacks pouch, wristwatch, book pouch, whistle, camera, headlamp...)
