    Weight and volume aside.
Not fighting with folds and twists of the bag, and no wrigling in and out of the hammock was the biggest reason fo me to go with TQ/UQ combo. I'm big and I hate tents for the confined space, the spine ache when changing clothes, the knee of your partner digging in to your back and the water bottle stabbing you in the chest.

Tarp and hammock was a salvation for me because of the living space and comfort. Sleeping bag and a pad negates at least 50% of that for me. They can really restrict your movements.

HAHA looking forward to trying out my first TQ! I plan on a fairly specific temp range of 35°-50°, so I'm sure this will do the trick. Sticking with the sleeping bag for the really cold stuff...but of course that could change too!

I'm loving my black and green 40° Burrow! Even with an extra ounce of down, the loft seems very light for 40° and some spots almost feel emply...but I've said that about every down item I have. Shaking helps a bit. Will need to get outside for a real test.

Many of my concerns have been put to ease regarding the coverage my sleeping bag provides. The Burrow is wide enough that I can tuck a good amount of it under my body and around my shoulder/neck area. I forgot these have a snap for behind you head, that will certainly help.

    HammockGear is soooo addictive!!

I fought this for a long time. Pulled the trigger on a Hammock Gear Burrow TQ 20 degree about three weeks ago. I literally got it today and I have one question? WHAT IN THE HAM SANDWICH DID I WAIT SO LONG FOR?

Just a better option, plain and simple. Much lighter than my bag, a fraction of the size, works better in my XLC (at least it did today for a little while)... No brainer for me.

If you buy it and don't like it, it can be sold here in a matter of minutes in most cases for almost what you paid for it. Food for thought. Good luck.

Perhaps a lame newbie question, but don't you also have to have a bottom quilt?

On balance would the two quilts roughly equal the sleeping bag?

    Cheers,
    Glenn

You don't have to have an under quilt, but I would never go without. A sleeping mat would work and some people use them year round.

I would say my top quilt and under quilt are very close to the sleeping bag alone in volume, maybe 1.2x the size. Definitely more savings than I thought.

Nice looking quilt. Congatulations! I spent all of last fall and 1/2 of the winter saving up to get my first set of quilts. After many hours pouring over threads and talking with different folks, I came to the same conclusion as yourself. I pulled the trigger in February, and must say that quilts are awesome.

Keep in mind that you should compare TQ+UQ combo to sleeping bag+sleeping pad combination.

TQ/UQ always win weight and size wise.
