Virginia, Luray Float trip this spring

All righty folks I'm going to do a float trip this spring and looking for anyone interested in going. Requirements you need to have you own way down the river (canoe or kayak) you need to have your own transportation, we will run a shuttle to the put in based on who's going. We will be camped at Compton rapids class 3 but can be walked everything else is easy. I'm thinking one night but can do two if that's what the people want. I thinking mid May no dates yet but once again let me know what work. This is early planning at this point. Map http://www.shenandoahriver.com/River_map.html

How many days, a long weekend or more? And are you packing all gear in the boats? Also is the river deep enough for a fiberglass sea kayak, or is a plastic rec boat recommended?

Edit: Never mind on how many days, I read it more closely and answered my own question.

I'd hate to ding up a good fiberglass sea kayak - if you can, use a rubber canoe.
I've only been as far as mile 15 on the attached map. The rapids above the mile 15 point have a lot of rock gardens - in a 18 foot Coleman (rubber) canoe I bump and scrape round rocks when the water is medium/low. In May, the water level should be good - but it does depend on the recent rain fall.
Compton gap between mile 18 and 17 was rated as a class 3 rapid years ago - I see the attachment rates it class 2 but it's a pretty good rapid. You enter it with a sharp right turn - go thru the rapids - sharp left turn to exit. When the water was high, I have filled a canoe up with water doing this rapid. You can portage around the left side of it, but if water is high you'll bump/scrap thru this portage or drag your boat if the water is low.
So, low water - bump/scrape in some of the rapids. High water - bump/scrape at Compton gap if you portage. Plan to bump/scrape somewhere.
Also, small mouth bass fishing is pretty good at the rapids.

I'm interested (SOF Kayak) It's my busy time at work, but we'll see. I'd be up for 2 nights to make it worth the drive.

Man, I wanna be all over this. My big bike trip on the C&O/GAP Trails is slotted for May and I probably can't swing both. I have a chance if it's the end of May. I will be following this thread. Thanks for putting it together.

I was thinking one night but I would love to do two nights. The river has areas to do a three day two night trip no problem. The river has rocks and you will hit, drag, bump and scrape. I would not use a fiberglass kayak at all !!!!!!!!! Dates as of now are flexible for me from mid May on. We have lots of time to get this together but I know some of you have to give a lot of notice for days of from work thus the reason Im starting the plans now.
