    First DIY project

Just ordered all of the materials for our first DIY project. Going to make the Mrs. a winter tarp with doors out of purple 1.9 silnylon. Going to model it after my WB Superfly. Toying with the idea of including either velcro or zippers to close the doors. Will post some pics when it is complete.

Sounds like a fun project. Can't wait to see the finished tarp.

Can’t comment on the zipper, but the Velcro turned out to be a bad ordeal for me. It didn’t want to pack well and made set up a little difficult.
My ego said, SURE you can.
Half way in my body said OH NO YOU CAN'T

I agree. I used loops and toggles. They have some nice small plastic ones at JOANNS Fabrics.

I ran 1/8" shock cord from my corner tie out to the opposite door and clipped it with a s-beaner. Then ran another the opposite direction. The shock cord let's you sneak in and the door pulls closed. You do have to be careful not to trip but it works get. DIYGS shared this idea with me. I'm hiking the Appalachian trail this weekend with our troop. I will snap a pic.
