Everything worked perfect, except for me. Did not sleep much, but I could not have been more comfortable in my RR. I live 25 miles south of the start of the AT in GA. (No offense to you folks in Maine who believe it starts up there) Anyhow, temps dipped into the high 30s by early morning and I was pretty frosty most of the night with no under quilt and my new Ozarks sleeping bag in serious need of some additional down. I went inside around 4:30 AM and grabbed a couple of down jackets which did the trick. Just as I was starting to drift off the birds start chirping and dogs start barking.
Well that didn't scare me none, so I leaned over, lit my brand new DIY Fancy Feast alcohol stove (thanks Youtube stove people), and enjoyed a steaming hot cup of coffee without even leaving my hammock. I got that idea from some nervous lookin feller on Youtube. mmmm mmmm. So pumped! Can't wait to pack up all my new toys and hit the woods.
Get yourself a CCF pad or better yet a comfy UQ. If you haven't already seen this be sure to come join us for a group hang at Raven Cliffs.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
Jbog glad you enjoyed yourself. Just imagine how awesome it will be when you get to sleep.
"As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement. For the Lord your God moves about in your camp..." Deuteronomy 23: 13,14
I also had the maiden voyage this week. Backyard hang Thursday. And then did my first solo backpacking trip on the Dutchman Creek Trail in the Uwharrrie Saturday. Well it was me and my Vizsla. Weather was perfect, had a great campsite, and hang was flawless. My pad insulation worked great, and strategically placed jacket and sit pad helped me avoid the cold spots. Thanks you Shug for the videos to help with the learning curve!
And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it
But I wouldn't trust a person like me, if I were you
Sure I wasn't there, I swear I have an alibi
I heard it from a man who knows a fella who says it's true

Glad to hear of maiden voyages and before you realize it the backyard becomes more appealing and they all shake their head at ya! My story anyway
It's not the boulders that throw us off balance, it's the pebbles beneath our feet
My first purchase was pretty pricey too but I'm sure it'll last several years. Enjoy my friend.
