We had to weight down the tripods and finding rocks on a bald aint that easy hehe
Video worked fine for me once I got to a desktop. Amazing shots. It solidifies the fact that I need an intervalometer for my camera. And a lot of extra batteries, 700 shutter activations has got to chew through battery juice.

What do you use to protect your camera on long hikes with unknown weather? I don't even bring mine when it's forecasted for rain on my day hikes. I have a Lowepro all weather with the built in fly, but just dont trust it in some of the downpours I've been caught in.

I have modified my rather lighter-weight tripod with hooks so I can fill bags with dirt, my pack and anything else I can find to try and keep it in place. In the city I use my camera bag as a ballast.

What kind of cameras/lenses were you using for these shots? If you dont mind me asking.

Erick I had two cameras up and running. The Moonscape timelapse was with a Canon G1X. The 700+ picks for the startrail was with a Canon 6D.
The G1X I avoid rain with. The 6D has weather sealing and the lens used was the Tokina 16-28. It can handle splashes on the front element but I don't think it is rated for prolonged rain.
You so right about ballast. It took us a while on the bald to find rocks to fill a sack with, that and a full 1.5 liter water bottle; tripod low to the ground with legs splayed out. Even then some camera shake in the gusts.
Also know this was a short hike. My pack was killing me weightwise....

TallPaul you have quite the memory. I'd forgotten that one, its also the trip where a Nano-7 failed and bounce me hard on the ground

Grinder, would have been great seeing all the Floridians again Always my work week it seems.
Bill I'd love to have your dark skies, anyone can learn the camera.
Bonepile, Upmysleeves, Cali thank you all very much. I've already gotten word from HNO that repair is def. possible! The Dirigible with the largest amount of w/b cuben suits Poof more since she is a wet breather; she'll make do in the Graf in the meantime

    Thumbs up

Hey MM. As usual, your video was superb! Hope Poof's sock is good as new in no time.

Amazing video. I wish I was closer to dark sky, never seen anything so beautiful. I miss my time in Alaska, dark sky and auroral activity is something to see.

As far as the video not playing on mobile, that happens sometimes based on copyright issues with music, I'm told. Something about the rights holders monitoring mobile more aggressively than the desktop player. Either way, great music selection.

That's exactly the error it was. Something about the music rights.

I'm fascinated by your time lapse photography. The spinning starlit sky looked like something PIXAR would do in its animations, only this is real. Kudos to you and Poof for braving the elements to capture that.
