    Handy Hammock Anyone? No Trees?

Has anyone had any experience with these Handy Hammock stand from
    http://www.handyhammock.co.uk/.
They look pretty interesting but im not sure i want to spend the money on it. I like the idea of carrying at least one
because at a few locations I have trouble finding two suitable trees close.

Yes a few us have them. There was a group buy last year. Good product and very cleaver engineering. I got the extra long pegs and use mine at the beach.

My wife & I each have one. It's easier to hang from trees, but when you din't have any or park regulations don't allow hammocks, these are a great alternative.
If you don't need to carry your stand, also look at the Turtledog stands in this forum.

I was also intrigued -- so I got one. The first (and only, so far) time that I set it up in my backyard didn't go so well. As soon as I (VERY gently) sat in the hammock, the pegs came up out of the ground (bringing a big divot of soil with it). Apparently, my soil was too loose for it. Presumedly the (optional) longer pegs would have worked better -- don't know. Perhaps my (too loose) soil is rare and this thing would work well most places -- don't know. If you'd like to buy mine, say so and we can try to work something out.

I got one and carry it when I am motorcycle camping. Just makes my life easier when I can only find one or no trees to hang from. Derek has done a couple of mods to his. You can check them out at: http://theultimatehang.com/2012/12/h...-stand-review/ I have only used mine a hand full of times but have not been disappointed when I did.

Since the soil is your support, weak soil equals weak support, just like weak trees. Longer stakes are the key to weak soils. In any case, driving the stakes all the way in is critical for this hammock.

MAD777, the turtledog stand looks great, but i haven't found any designs for a truly "portable" stand that comes close to 2.2lbs. I'm an ultralight/lightweight backpacker depending on the season and this guy seems pretty viable to me. that being said i do plan on building a turtledog type stand for the back yard.

One snag that you'll have to get creative to overcome, is how to hang your tarp with the Handy Hammock system.
