    football quilt

What do you guys think about this ?

Similar to a speer pea pod but smaller.
Ends will be split 12" - 18" similar to the latest Eno.

As shown as a full length UQ. Thinking adjusters on the sides to tighten it up.

Also thinking a zip on narrow top to turn it into a real pea pod.

Insulation would be in the 7'-6" area. In cold just stuff a jacket into the ends of need be.

Weight for 5oz Apex + M50 shell alone would be about 22 ounces with no suspension, no shock cord, no zippers no velcro etc..

Take what I say for what you paid for it, but I'm not sure the shape is right. I'm not sure how well it will conform to the shape of the hammock when it is distorted by the occupant.

If you look at this photo the hammock doesn't appear to match the shape of your drawing.

Again this opinion is worth about $0.00!

    LOL thanks. All opinions welcome.

This is a speer pea pod and we know it works.

This is the size of a speer pea pod. Sort of a truncated football shape.
That said the measured size a speer peapod is 9' long and 5'-6' wide and about 36" - 42" wide on the ends.

Figure the zip in strip down the middle will be roughly 12" wide or maybe 12" at the ends and 18" in the middle. That would add about 6-8 oz without the zippers.

Are you planning on using this as a quilt or as a peapod? I though you were aiming for a quilt. Adding a shock cord channel down the sides? There would be a lot of sag in the center that I don't think would fit your body well.

The pea pod is very warm, but unless you make it really big it's hard to get into....

Both but yeah you are right.

I probably need to build it more like an Eno.

Reason I say, is I did a mock up of a bigger 5' wide x 9' long eno (had a real one but returned it) and I thought it needed more width, IE like it needed to be more of a football shape then I found the speer peapod online and thought about just extended the ends to make it simple.

That said if I am going to use it as an UQ only, it probably needs to be more of a bathtub shape like an eno then vary the top width to make it into a pod.

Look into adding darts to a quilt. That's how you get the 3d "bathtub" shape along with the "football" shape. There's lots of information out there.

Agreed. My two DIY UQs each have 8 darts.
