    Permanent posts for hammock

Anyone ever just bury/cement 4x4s for a permanent hammock stand or slack line system?

There have been posts on here that showed where 4x4s had snapped. It would be better to go with 4x6s or even 6x6s.

When my electric co-op replaced the power poles on my road I took some of the old ones and cut them into 10' sections. I have them arranged in a triangle and cemented at about 15' apart. I can hang three hammocks at a time

I had a similar thought. I wonder how much force a metal t-post can withstand. Tractor Supply has them in 10 foot lengths. A couple feet can be buried in concrete. I want something safe, but just haven't warmed up to some of the designs that use a lateral bar the length of the hammock to take up the shear forces.

Yes, you can use 4x4's. To keep them from possibly snapping at some weak point, simply add a 2x2 or dowel rod or equivelent between the posts at the top. This will work to keep the posts from squeezing together and will strengthen the setup.

It's also a great place to hang some lights or whatever. Spice it up and make it look cool.

Good luck and show pics when done.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I can bend t-posts over by hand.

The local feed store I buy horse feed from has 5-6" round treated corner post. Much cheaper than 6x6. They would be plenty strong enough to hang from.

That is what I did with my power poles. Keep in mind that without some kind of support between them you will have to cement them pretty good. I have had to redo two of mine because they were wanting to lean.

I was thinking of doing the 4x4 posts with something across the top, but it sounds like 6x6 is safer.

I like my turtledog stand, but I'd like something more permanent in the yard. Plus, I figure I can use it as a clothesline when I'm not hanging.
