We are doing Hoist Lake and Jordan River Pathway this summer. Both look promising.

    Pinckney Rec. Area... Same thing.

Can you do dispersed camping in either Yankee or Pinckney? Hate campground camping, even like on the Jordan River pathway. Thanks.

If you're driving all the way to Hoist, look up Reed Lake as well. Its close by and make for a nice camp - drive - camp weekend.

Will do. Thanks for the tip. Looking for a walk in with a set camp for a couple days and maybe some fishing/swimming.

I went to Hoist Lakes the second week of May last year or the year before..don't remember. But the biting flies, mosquitoes and ticks SHUT ME DOWN. I'm a bug magnet, so maybe it was a worse case scenario. But it was literally so bad I threw in the towel and drove straight back home with a 5 hour drive! It's possible they slow down thru summer though.

By July, the bugs at Hoist usually aren't bad at all. Even by the end of May many years. Also, it always seems to me that the campsites on the east side by the Hoist Lakes are buggier than the ones on the west side, by Byron lake.

Of course, with all the snow and ice this winter, and spring taking it's sweet time getting here, there could be bugs into August this year.

Yeah, I remember that one year where we had little snow during the winter and it was a dry spring. The farmers hated it but man that was a great year for bugs.

Only things saving us this year is a late spring freeze.

For a very secluded quick overnight I like silver creek pathway. It is a short hike around but there is a lot of fun spots to play in the river. I have never seen another camper in the dispersed areas.

I'll second silver creek, spent the night on the west side of the loop, lots of amazing spots along the river.
