Sewn or snaps?

My first 2 quilts I went with snaps....from now on I will go with sewn. I just don't need the versatility I thought snaps would get me.

I haven't had snaps, so I can't comment specifically, but count me in the anti-omnitape camp. I have an Arrowhead topquilt with an omniquilt and it drove me crazy until I sewed the thing shut. If I tried to put my feet in and missed, even a little bit, the tape would rip open and require gymnastics to reattach it. If snaps hold tighter than that, they would work, otherwise I would go for sewn.

I put a small flat center release buckle at the top of the omni-tape to help prevent this, seems to work well for me so far. Can picture the gymnastics though.

Ive been looking at a topquilt, too. guess ill get sewn shut!

All my top quilts are sewn since I can't envision using a TQ in a hammock without using the "footbox".

Snaps all the way for me. Not even a question about it, love the flexibility.

I always opt for the flexibility of snaps for the open as a "blanket" feature, but recently I have been thinking that a zipper "ala EE" seals the footbox better than snaps, offers more convenience, and would weigh just a few grams more.

Snaps make sense if they are on a quilt design like JRB uses on the Hudson River or Old Rag Mountain. Those quilts are designed to be used as either top or bottom quilt. For something that is a mummy shape with a taper in the footbox then having snaps doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me since it won't function as well as an under quilt.

The versatility or the thought of it sounded great to me but I never opened the quilt out, so sewn for me from now on.

I think sewn is the way to go. I guess snap would be better if you were using in warmer temps.
