I didn't mention this in my trip report but my son and I did an overnighter in a remote area where there is hardly any camping. In fact, we were probably the first people that had ever set up in the spot we chose, at least in modern times.
Around 2:30 in the morning, my son got in my hammock because he was cold. Soon after falling back asleep, I felt what I thought was him moving his hand across me and against the hammock real hard. I got on to him but then realized I felt it more on my side and from underneath the hammock. I assume it was some kind of animal nosing me or checking me out with their paw or hoof?
We heard raccoons, lots of coyotes, a fox, and deer. In fact, there was a lot of deer scat just a few yards around our hammocks the next morning.
Is there a particular animal more prone to do this? I know they are not used to people being out in these woods at night so were probably more curious than anything. I figured it was a deer but was just wondering which animal you think it might have been.
