What does your suspension system weigh

Update: I changed out my straps for 1" ones, so now am down to 14 Oz. And I'm happy with that, I can still hang from 10" diam trees 22' apart.

I originally put the constrictor at the hammock. In the pic above, I put the constrictor at the tree, with a pack hanging from the "loose" end of the constrictor.

Here's another pic I just took a few minutes ago.



The constrictor is in grey AmSteel and the static section is in blue AmSteel. (both 7/64).

I hope this shows things a little more clearly.

Frawg, I can see why you swapped the constrictor to the tree side. How do you attach the line at the hammock end. BTW, using two colors definitely helps visualize. And is that your Police car in the background?

While the details are in flux as I keep playing around, this pic shows the basic notion:



It's a loop used to form a bowline on a bight. The double loop on the left runs through the hammock end channel. The single loop on the right fits over the toggle from the UCR. Note that this orientation is mirrored (left/right) from the one in the blue / grey pic above.

As an aside, I used an end-to-end splice to form the main loop.

amac, here's a mock-up pic of my latest brain burp. It shows how the pieces go together at the hammock end, oriented as in the outdoor pic, i.e., this is how the left end of the hammock is connected.



From the left, the loop at the end of the grey UCR connects to the blue toggle-terminated mini-whoopie. On the right, the grey hammock end channel loop hooks over the toggle.

The mini whoopie sling has its free part terminated in an eye splice (the blue one hanging down) that you can hang gear from. The toggle is held by a 'slip knot', using a bury instead of an overhand knot. The little blue nub just keeps the line braid from unraveling.

I'll now just make UCRs or slings with loop ends as a standard. They can then be joined as above, or with the Ashley #1921 toggle hitch. I'll probably make several of each in different lengths so I can mix & match for a clean set up with less extra line dangling around.

that's brilliant. put an eye splice on that end and just clip whatever there.

I made me a UCR last night from Vectran, will be trying it out this weekend.
If it works I'll redo it with the eye splice on the tail end of the UCR.

Only if the trees are close enough and/or the tarp is long enough. In my case, the gear would probably be unprotected by the tarp..

Ok made some new Whoopie Slings and added a few Toggles got rid of two Beiners and four ring buckles.

Total Suspension Both sides excluding my ridge line as I think that is more part of the hammock.
Total= 6.6oz

Individual Weights for one side:
1 12' Whoopie Sling= 1.1oz
1 6' Tree Hugger= 2 oz (Clark's Tree Straps)
2 2.5" Aluminum Toggles= .2 oz (5.7 grams) (or .1oz for each Toggle)
