    Charleston S.C. Area?

I have a question for all the Palmetto Hangers. Do you know of any good camping/hanging sites in or near Charleston? My wife and I are traveling there during our Spring Break. The hotels we were looking at were rather pricey. The wife is fine with T#*@ camping, but is still leery about trying out the hammock.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations!

    Thanks,

    Tuck

Edisto Island is an hour South of Charleston. I don't know what their rules are on using the trees - I had my Turtle Dog stand along.

Try Givhans Ferry State Park. I've never been, but it's not too far out and has "primitive group sites" and hiking trails. Those are usually good signs for hangers.

Your best bet is to come up the weekend of March 28-30 for Spring Swing. This is up just south of Myrtle Beach though.

Not sure if they allow hangers but give the Charleston County park on James Island a call. They have a full campground there. This is the only campground you are gonna find IN Charleston. There is a KOA on the north side of Mt. Pleasant. Again not sure if they allow hangers or not. Edisto is about an 1.5 hour drive from charleston and Givhans Ferry State Park is close to an hour also. These driving times are from downtown Charleston so it depends on where you were planning on staying. The Palmetto trail starts just North of Mt. Pleasant so there is camping on that. However this will be primitive camping with no clean water or bathrooms.

Where were you planning on staying? Downtown, North Charleston, West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant?
