Cinch Buckle Decision

Both the standard cinch buckle (Dutch) and the Warbonnet/AHE style have been extensively used. Both have proven themselves and it is simply a matter of personal preference as to which one to use.

Having used both, I prefer the DJ 101's that Dutch carries.

With the DJ 101, if you use an amsteel (any rope) continuous loop to attach it to the hammock, you need to put enough wraps on the buckle to fill the space so the loop stays centered. The AHE style has a V shaped area to attach a rope so this is not a concern with it.

I have both, Dutch's are easier to use but the AHE's do not need any kind of half hitch, I have slipped on the dutch style when I didn't put a half hitch in. Dutch's are much easier to let the slack out compared with the AHE (I can do it one handed with mittens).

If I could pick only one it would be the Dutch buckles: so easy to work with. You will be very happy compared to whoopies!

I prefer cinch buckles. I'm concerned about wrapping anything over sharp edges as over time as it can be a point of failure. Take a few minutes and feed the loop through the buckle and move it in the lashing to spread the wear and check for frayed spots. Too many variables t say how often but I'd do it at least once a year. More if I was using it a lot and/or heavy. ;-)

+1 for Dutch's. I've use both and the 101's are much easier to adjust.

BTW: You can get the cinch buckles in black or silver on Dream Hammock's site. You have to buy the strap with it though.

I have descending rings on a hammock & they dropped me when I forgot to put the safety knot in one end. I installed buckles from Dutch on my wife's SBP and they hold great without the safety knot. I still put the knot in for safety. (Wife gets mad @ me when dropped) I made 8" continous loops with the 6 wrap like Dutch sells premade by adding 6 inches to the amsteel. They come out exactly 8". I will be adding these to my hammock & using the rings for something else.

I have both the AHE & Dutch buckles. Love the ability to easily adjust the systems, but don't like the weight. Titanium would probably push me over the edge.

The ones on Dutch's site are easier to use but do weigh a bit more. They are sold by several different folks here on the forum.

I have both. the AHE's are currently lighter. Can't wait for Dutch's Ti version of the buckle.
