Newbie Hammock Setups.

Hey I've been hanging for years but I've never gotten a tarp (I take the tent if there is a chance of rain). The first few people posting kept recommending the gear guide 12x12 tarp. And for the price I don't think I could make anything that cheap. They r sold out so what would y'all suggest as being comparable?

25' of 3/16 Dyneema $15 (eBay)
25' of 1" nylon tube webbing $12 (eBay)
2 Rap Rings $4
2 Metolius Carabiners $15
25' of 2mm Dyneema for ridge line $10 (eBay)
2 NiteEyez S-clips $4
Kelty Noah's Tarp 9 (includes stakes) $40(eBay)
2 six inch pieces of 3/8" aluminum bar stock to use as toggles $2

Wow, I guess I really did spend nearly $200.

But... I have no bottom insulation. I was thinking of CCF, but what thickness works well enough? Are we talking Yoga Mat (3/16") or ground pad (3/4")? Or somewhere in between?

Where is the point of diminishing return?

4 - 2' Re-rod 4.00
1 - Pilates mat (don't tell the wife I have it) 0.00
1- 30 year old sleeping bag that will be an underquilt sooner or later
Misc. Biners - Already had them

2X4 are for Labor Day hang where there is only one tree available.

Looks like you have a great start rig working. Hang for a while and you'll know what you need, or want, when upgrading. Get it Get it Gone..............
