    Welcome Aaron!
I think you've made a good choice in the DH. I feel the material choice is based on weight, both your physical weight and carry weight. You really don't need a double layer if your physical weight is below fabric recommendations unless you want to use a pad in between the layers. Once you are set on weight choice then decide which fabric you want. The real difference between nylon and poly is the stretch factor as both are pretty close to comfort "feel".

Same goes for all your hammock accessories, you have to figure out where you will use them and how are you going to carry them. If pack packing, light weight material and equipment is of greater benefit than carrying everything on a motorcycle (as I do) or car camping.

As for suspension, watch Shug's video's where you will learn a lot on hammocks, suspensions, tarps and "what not"

Personally I prefer the cinch buckle. It's fast, uncomplicated, dependable and easy to adjust at any moment and a no-fiddle ordeal.
Good luck. Choices are part of the fun!

    Re: Newbie Hammock Setups.

Went with the thunderbird double layer 1.9 acu on the outside and 1.1 black inside. Got the cinch buckles to go with it. Wanted the double layer so I could have different colors and extra peace of mind. It'll be on my motorcycle so weight isn't a problem. Thanks for the help I hope I like it as much as I think I will

    Re: Newbie Hammock Setups.

Thanks... I also ordered a cheap $20 hammock to play with while I wait (4 week wait for the DH) that should let me get used to hanging it properly. I'm also debating on using it instead of a bed so I'll have a chance to set this one up and see if I like it.

Just wondering where everyone is finding blue ccf pads at Wal-Mart for under $10.00. The cheapest I could find was $15.00 in the workout/fitness dept. and they were on closeout so the sign said and they are not even a full 6 feet long but it was 23" wide.

Our sleeping bag dept. at Wal-Mart was almost empty. They probably will restock for spring camping weather in the next few months. I will see what they have then. Thanks.

Just ordered my Warbonnet Blackbird, tarp, and Winter Yeti underquilt. Can't wait till it arrives. This is my first camping hammock. In the mean time, I found a like new ENO hammock and tarp for $40. It's time to go backpacking!
