Looking over some testing on 1/8" Dyneema synthetic rope, this break test video illustrates a method that should work pretty well.
For instance, the bury splice should be suitable for looping around a tree trunk.

A 6-foot length with long bury splices at each end, then run around the tree and run one loop thru the other.
One might encase it in a sleeve to further protect the tree.
