I made a pretty nice one from a pattern I found in a book on DIY backpacking equipment. I can't find the name of the book, but if you like I can scan the instructions in and send them to you. I made mine out of 1.1 silicon nylon. I made it extra large (10' x 6' I think) and use it as my tarp as well. I put some velcro tabs to hold up the extra when I use it as a poncho.

I'd appreciate that. I just received my silnylon yesterday from OWF. I'm excited to get this started.

I'm planning on giving this a shot, once I get my Sil

It's the Parcho - You need to scroll way near the bottom to find it. The plans/pattern is available to download for free.

I would like to see these as well Doc. Mind posting them to the is thread if you find it? I have a vision in my head for what I think will work but I would like to compare to what has already been done.

I can do that. I'm a bit stretched for time right now, so I'll try to get it up this weekend.

No rush man. I appreciate your willingness to help your fellow hanging brothers out.

    Thank you.

I'm hoping some can help me through this. I tried to post the scans of the poncho plans but I kept getting a message that I don't have permission to do that. How do you add pictures with a post?

I made a couple of the Roy Robinson ponchos, and they turned out pretty good (even the hoods). It's longer in the back so it will cover a pack, but you can also fold the bottom 18" up if you're not carrying a pack. After using one of them for a year or two, I got a good rain hat, and I've decided I like a hat better than a hood because I can see and hear what's around me. The poncho is big enough to function as a hammock tarp if necessary (diagonal ridgeline, asym coverage). It's pretty easy to add a couple of tarp grips and a bungee to make it fit over your pack securely, like a Packa, with the excess fabric rolled up and tucked in at the top and sides. That makes it easy to put on without stopping to take off your pack.

I recently knocked up a poncho tarp out of 15d silnylon. All I did really was split a 8' for so length of sil down the centre and sew a ridgeline (with a space in it for the neck hole) where I had just cut leaving a strong base in which to sew a simple long neck tube (I use a boonie. I was a pretty simple project and took, maybe, an hour.
