    tarp tie out lengths

I have a HG Cuben with doors coming and I've been thinking about the tie-outs since I placed the order. Searched around but couldn't really find a discussion on lengths used, plenty of suggestions on how to. I'm thinking 12' on each end with some stingers and zing it for the ridge line. For the 4 tie outs maybe 6' each with line lock 3s, maybe the night ize reflective cord (my buddies are tent campers and seem to lose all sight of the lines when getting close to my hammock messing them up). For the doors, 3'-4' of shock cord. Not sure about the side pull outs yet, may just let them be for now.

Am I on the right track?

Sounds good. If you want the tarp to be in porch mode, check how high you would set that up and think about the length to the ground from the poles/sticks. The doors I rarely use more than a foot or two. Usually they are tied together, to make it a hex tarp, or tied close to the ground in storm mode. Never used shock cord before though, just used a taught-line knot.

I have the same tarp. I've found that 6' of line (Zing It) on the corners is working well for me. It's long enough to do porch mode in most situations, but short enough to roll up in the tarp easily when packing up. I've got 4' of line on the doors, and I've got Linloc 3's on lark's headed onto both corners and doors with small Zing It continuous loops (about 6" circumference).

So, yes, it seems you're on the right track.

I got the same tarp last week and rigged it over the weekend.

I used 6' of ZingIt with line locks for the 4 pullouts and about 3' of the same cord with no line locks for the doors. I chose to not use shock cord for tie-outs with a Cuben tarp ... I have seen a report of the stakes pulling under tension which then causes the stake to slingshot through the tarp. If you search the forum you may find be able to find that post.

I then used 30' of ZingIt for a continuous ridgeline with the Dutch Hook on one end and a Dutchware Stingerz on the other end. I added some snakeskins from MountainGoat and it proved to be a great configuration for very quick setup and break down.

thanks for the feedback, I did see the post about the shock cord and stake through the tarp, so the doors may change to just regular line. Also a little leery about a CRL under the cuben, suppose I could do one above it instead of two separate lines off each end. Could be easier to adjust. Could just use various knots, but Dutch's gadgets are too cool to pass up.

Actually I use the CRL *over* the tarp. When you make the tie outs tight it pulls the tarp away from the CRL. I also worried about wear on the fabric as well as another path for water to get it's way under the tarp and hence my choice of running it over rather than under the tarp. I thought about the separate lines off the tarp but figured that the adjustability of the CRL was too good to pass up.

I found that 6' cord with 6" of elastic (when stretched) was only just about long enough for porch mode with my tarp pitched at a nice high summer hang height, and that was with the stakes closer in than I'd really like. I'll likely replace those 4 cords with 7' or 8' lengths.

    Steel,
so the end with the dutch hook, do you hook it to the d ring on the tarp or have a small loop to hook it too? So its basically, loop around the tree, hook dutch clip to d-ring. loop other end around the next tree, use stinger to attach to other end of tarp. seems pretty straightforward.

This video should help you get an idea of how to rig up your tarp with a continuous ridge line and dutchware
