    20* or overstuffed 40*?

Looking to get a Burrow as a birthday present to myself, wondering if it would be better to get a 20* or a 40* with two ounces of overstuff. Theoretically, that would make a "30*" quilt - and I've heard the HG quilts are rated conservatively anyhow.

Anyone have an overstuffed 40* and an opinion to share?

What temp are you sleeping down to. What kind of under quilt do you use?

My only comment / experience is with 30* Incubator. Adam has had me do the custom order on the 30* due to getting the baffles correct. I do not understand all of the specifics or geometry, I just trusted the quilt man!

It was an easy process for me, I left an email and a voicemail - he called a few hours later, talked me through how to do the custom order form - the rest they say is downy goodness.

    Good luck, hope this helps!

I guess that would be helpful information. I'm usually not out in the cold cold, somewhere around 30 as my low. I use an underquilts.com Foyle UQ with 10 ounces of down, which would theoretically get me to around 10 - never tried it that low. I'm also tall and skinny and sleep just on the cold side of normal.

I use a 40* UGQ TQ with 1oz overstuff. Have taken it down to upper 20's with extra clothing and around 32? With normal sleep wear. I am a warm sleeper tho. I also own a 20* burrow with unknown amount of overstuff and only use it when I expect teens or lower.
It's not the fall im scared of, it's the sudden stop at the end!!!

Adam would tell you, like he told me when I ask the same questions, that your under quilt is doing 60% of the work. He told me that with a 0 deg under I'd be good to 0 deg with a 20 deg top, for an average sleeper. He almost made it sound like I'd be good if I used my under quilt to manage out side temps and used my top to keep the heat, mainly produced by my body and the lower rated under quilt from escaping. He told me that doing that didn't require an even match with your top and bottom.

In my own personal experience I've been down to 23 deg with my 20 deg incubator, 1 oz over stuffed, and my 40 deg burrow, no over stuff and been fine. Not hot, but not chilli either.

I had the same "issue" when deciding and went with a 40+2oz incubator.....
I went that route to have less issues with making sure the down is distributed evenly. I had a 20d phoenix and there would be thin spots if I did not take my time shaking out and distributing the down after unpacking.(not an issue with the UQ..laziness on my part)
Also, I decided when it was below 40d I'd be taking my bridge(due to ease of UQ)... a colder GE UQ was not needed for me.

No regrets... I've been down to 35d and was warm.

Good feedback. I just went with a 40° +1oz. I was tired of having a 30° sleeping bag in the fall/spring nights between 40° and 50° in Michigan. Just too warm.

I plan on using my 40° +2oz Incubator with it often, and the 20° Incubator when necessary.

You may want to take the time to consult with Adam. I suggest this, as I'm pretty sure the warmer quilts (40° or 50°) are sewn threw and do not have baffles. That makes a pretty big difference in the quilts effectiness.

While I don't have a Burrow yet, I went with a 20° quilt and have been very happy with it. I live in the VA/DC area, and prefer to hike/hang in the Spring/Fall/Winter - Summer's are so hot here. I'm working on a DIY sewn threw quilt for the Summer. Just my 2 cents, best of luck.
