I done gone an' bought me a BBXLC!

After no small amount of research and discussing ideas, and thinking and fretting and learning and video watching, I pulled the trigger tonight.

Brandon was back and forth with me on email a bunch today regarding the ridge runner and bridge style hammocks in general, and I appreciated his time.

So I sat this evening and reviewed everything I'd bookmarked to this date.

While I had my heart set on a bridge, because I felt that would be best for me, I'm opting for a gathered end.

Now, I did want a larger tarp than WB offered, so I snagged a 13x11 silnylon unit from Amazon to pair up with the hammock. Why so large you may ask? So I can park my motorcycle under it, I shall answer...

Now to settle in for a few weeks and wait for the gear.

I owe a debt to everyone here who helped answer my questions - thank you.

Laying in my XLC as I type this... you'll love it. Can't wait to see pics of your hammock and bike under the tarp. Enjoy.

    sportsguy,

I'm interested in the RidgeRunner. So, I'm curious as to your decision process to choose the BBXLC over the RidgeRunner (or, a gathered end vs. a bridge).

Thanks in advance for your reply,

In my case the decision was quite simple...

    1 - I'm over the weight limit
    2 - see #1

After going back and forth and talking directly with the manufacturers, I opted to give the Blackbird a try. WB has a solid return policy, so that adds some comfort (if you'll pardon the pun).

While I work on fixing my mass issues, the Blackbird is a reasonable, in my mind, starting point. Plus, I reason one has to start somewhere, and everything I've read or watched tells me the WBBB is a favorite of many.

I could have opted for a Clark, at almost double the cost, but may have well encountered issues such as others have noted - tightness in the shoulders, mainly. This path allows me to test more items as I camp and build a solid base of knowledge around equipment, process and my own likes/dislikes.

I have and like the Clark but I think the WB XLC will be my favorite but I have ordered the WB RR that I have yet to try out.
When I was a kid the only time we were in the house was to eat and sleep.

Thanks for the reply. I hope you enjoy your Blackbird. Warbonnet seems to do a great job all around. I'm still thinking about a RidgeRunner...

I got my XLC last week and took it out for a two nighter. Great hammock. Little learning curve on my 3/4 under quilt but slept good both nights. I bet your going to enjoy it!
