    Super Minimal tarp/under cover lol

well here is what the Duck Hunter Bivy tarp tube tent looks like as a hammock shelter..only the two ends where the suspension goes are open, but due to the zipper being where it is, I think it is possible to get in and out.... I am looking at the idea of adding two triangular pieces to the roof ends so as to give it more coverage...probably in Coyote Tan or similar.....
The first pic, with the side unzippered, the second, zipped up. last pic shows how much space there is in the shelter.. no bugnet yet. Structural Ridgeline is 128 inches for a 156" overal length (carabiner to carabiner) without Spreader Bars. I added the spreader bars and noticed it got WAY tight...so I will be doing some fiddling with the SRL and possibly replace the tarp shelter's gray line with prussik loops so I can center it with the SRL.

    Off topic, but Q.
Is your tarp ridgeline set like that so you can adjust the height?

That's pretty cool! You have a tarp and an UQ protector all in one.

    Looks nice, almost a semi-sock.

What are the dimensions on that tarp/uqp?

well it was how it came before I sewn the zipper. I might disassemble the tarp ridge line and give it a continuous loop of the same material as the structural ridge line so I can have an adjustable centering ridge line.

    thanks!

it really is small. length is 8 feet, width is just shy of 6 ft for the top part. bottom is 6 by 57". That's why I'm thinking to add two triangle pieces to extend the ends so that there's more coverage.

I am intrigued by this. I can see adding some line and biners on the ends on the bottom ends to pull them up tighter to the ends of the top tarp to really baton down the hatches.

Getting in and out of the hammock might be an issue. . . . hmmmmm.

    Thanks.

A poncho could do for one side, if you want to save on weight/bulk, but the other side, yeah, a pair of doors would probably be easiest. I could see how that'd work.

On the other hand, the short length might make it possible to hang it close enough to the ground to walk on that bottom piece, while still having your hammock off the ground. It might not be a bug...

that is an idea. I don't have tie out loops on the centers of the short sides of the bottom panel though, but I might add them anyways, to facilitate pulling them up tighter with shock cord...I do see what you mean about the getting in and out once thats done...but honestly, probably just undo the ends before unzipping it to get out..

poncho is one idea, I have an USGI poncho that is the same size as the top part, if I hang the poncho diamond shaped, it probably will give me a bit more coverage on the ends, but two triangle pieces like a Hex tarp would be best to save on weight and bulk (dont need poncho if have this.) I will be washing the material and then seeing what kind of coating it had before, because it's clearly old and may not be as waterproof as it used to be.... might use silnylon mix on it. Or Scotch Gard if the old coating is still on the top part.
as for the set up, I had it set up rather high....so if I hang it lower, but not too low that my butt touches the ground, its possible the bottom part would be walk-on-able... but due to the small size of the set up, it would be more like crawl into the hammock under the shelter lol.
