I am sad to report, I am going back onto the ground. Hammocks have become a hassle to me. MY underquilt is warm, but it just seems to complicated when I could just carry a tent, a pad, and a sleeping bag. If you can help me make it uncomplicated, many thanks!

Have you ever been to a group hang, or gotten some facetime with an accomplished hanger? I have not, I am fairly isolated and have to learn through trial and error, but I learn a great deal through the videos and articles here. I would love to go to a group hang and have someone show me everything I am doing wrong!

What specifically isn't working for you? Just curious, I don't think there are many unsuccessful hang reports, I am sure details will help the next guy too.

yup...pros and cons.

you can keep the UQ attached to the hammock and pack it all together.

Also, you can keep the hammock stuff around for the times when you know the hammock will be a better option. I still tent when I know the tent is the better option.(no trees, high miles/low weight, need more space in pack for food, etc).

Dealing with the hammock in the cold can be an issue when attaching and adjusting all the "crap" vs. popping up a tent and jumping in the instant warmth/wind free shelter. But in the summer/heat the hammock wins(IMO)...something to keep in mind before ditching the hammock.

Hey DeerFight....are you at the spring Creek just a few miles from Lamoille canyon?

If so then there is at least one very experienced hanger in your area that camps in your back yard all the time.....and I try and get down there a couple times a year if I can find a weekend away. Not headed that way for a while but if you're willing to give it another try this summer stay in touch and we could hang and try to iron out any troubles. Also going to be hosting some trips up this way through the spring and summer if you are up for a drive to come up for a group hang.

What many call "fiddle factor" is part of the learning curve. But once you've got it, it's glorious!

If you've been watching Shug's videos, please understand that juggling flaming cookpots while singing & dancing is not a prerequisite to enjoying your hammock. (Crazy-fun, yes; required, no.) Don't wanna make this more difficult than it needs to be.

Seriously though, there is a bit of a learning curve. Kinda steep at times, but manageable, but well worth the effort IMHO. I find the testing to be half the fun, just another excuse to be spending time in the great outdoors!!

I am in that Spring Creek Sadly, I will only be getting my Drivers Liscense this summer. Basically, I just feel as if I went way into the overkill buying a 0 degree JRB underquilt. I feel like if I could sell that and pick up a cheaper and lighter UQ. Again, any suggestions on simplifying a setup would be amazing
