    Shock Cord tie-outs

Is anyone using shock cord between their tarp and the tie-out line for keeping tension on the line? I'm thinking about using short pieces of shock cord between the guy line and the tarp to do that. I have looked for some 1/8" shock cord hooks online, but evidently they are hard to find. I did find one web site, but they wanted my arm and leg in return. Surely, there is a vendor who sells these at a modest profit? If any of you are using shock cord this way, I'd be interested in how you like it?

Yes, I use shock cord as you describe has pros & cons. Also use for many other things: suspend uq, tent/open space shade shelter poles, side panel pull out poles which I made for hammock tarp but never used. Shock cord may last 5 yrs if you protect from heat & cold & sun. 10yrs throw out for sure! Probably not lowest price but I WILL not waste my time on cheap junk so I have purchased from:
    www.Dutchwaregear.com
    www.Questoutfitters.com
Both shipped to me via USPS very fast and cheap, I like Dutch better.
I'm sure u have ur reasons but plastic hooks would just be an extra point of failure and weight for me. I prefer to larks head a pre-made loop of shock cord to each tie out loop and guy line. Far to many broken plastic hooks in my personal experience but it's ur thread, YMMV. Very early morning I should drink some coffee and be more polite, sorry if I offended you.

I have shock cord larks-headed onto the tie outs, with glow in dark mini locs attached. from there my line runs through the mini locs to peg/ground/tree. simple pull to tighten. on the doors to my tarp is just shock cord which I tie off on opposite side corner. great for summer. once the temperature gets to cold, the shock cord doesn't work so well. simple to unthread from tie outs and larks head the line.
I think there is a sticky post video on this..

Yes, in fact here is an excellent how2 on it. They work great.

I got my shock cord from Marty at Wilderness Logics.

    Good luck!

    Do you need the hooks?
I just larks head around a foot of shock cord to the D-ring on the tarp. I then have zing-it from there to the stake, with a mini-line lock in the middle.

Similar to this method from Shane. link

Honestly, I just tie a ~4" loop of shock cord to the stake line. That goes around the stake and tensions just fine. Admittedly, I've got LineLocs on the tarp side, so it's adjustable there rather than by using a knot at the stake, so...

I just started using the method that 12trysomething posted, doing it that way will keep your tarp from flying away when the shock cord breaks...
