Lots of guys use them. Some of us crazy guys may even prefer them

Check out the bottom insulation forum here:

At the top there is a "Pads" specific forum. All of your questions have likely been answerd many times there. Good luck!

I find a 30" width to be about right - most wally world blue camping pads are 24", but the heaver exercise pads are wider and would work.
Gossamer Gear has a nice wide hammock pad but for some reason the price is real high ($39 plus shipping). I caught one on sale many years ago and still use it so I'm not up on where the current deals are.

So far I have not used an UQ. I have plans to make an IX UQ soon so i can try one out.
@deerfight, Just curious why do you prefer a pad over an UQ? I'm going to test it either way for a matter of personal opinion, but I wouldn't mind getting someone elses opinion on the matter so I know might know what to look for.

I have a DIY UQ, and have been recently using my KLYMIT STATIC V INSULATED pad.
R factor of 4, very compact and light, a good 'go-to-ground' option to have.
The texture on it keeps it from sliding around between the double layers in my hammock.
This thing really causes me to feel WARM on my backside,,,, not just the absence of cool.
Amazon has them for around $65 shipped.
I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, make sure I stay here.

When I see lovers' names carved into a tree, I don't think it's cute. I think it's strange how so many people take knives on a date.
