    Underquilt questions.

At what temperature do most of you require some type of bottom insulation? I only camp in the summer months. I have a few down sleeping bags, I'm wondering if I'll need any underquilt for the summer.

I use a hennessy explorer deluxe. I noticed that hennessy makes their own insulation system.

I consider myself a neutral to warm sleeper and I MUST have something underneath me in any temperature below 70°F. Everyone is a little different but I do not know anyone that can get though the 60's with no bottom insulation. The convective heat lost though a typical gathered end, parachute style hammock is pretty significant.

On the plus side, when our ground dwelling friends have to crawl into their stuffy tents on a hot summer night...well, we have our hammocks!

I've used a pad through the summers but didn't like the moisture issues. Switched to a summer weight uq last year and it made all the difference in comfort. Anything below about 70 calls for some type of insulation for me.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Thanks, would you all recommend sticking with the hennessy insulation?

I am also considering the eno underquilt. Would these be overkill? Is there something else I am overlooking?

Does the hennessy apex require a certain type of design?

Arrowhead makes the Potomac uq for the HH and can be made as a summer weight quilt.

I would agree with above posts. You are gonna want an underquilt. I got the cheap (price no quality) kaq Jarbridge from ahe. It's awsome.

the eno UQ'S are very overpriced and heavy, imo you will be better of with something from one of the cottege guys.

Both are poor choices value-wise. Hennessy SuperShelter and ENO UQs are amateur under-insulation. Get yourself a big boy underquilt.

You apparently do not know CryOTheWild that guy will go out in the teens without anything under him.

Between 60-70 I use a fleece blanket. I think it is 60"x50". Got it for $5 at Academy. Just needs to cover my back and butt. Below 60 I need more.
