What do you do with your pegs?

I made a carry kit that has pockets for my tent stakes, aluminum toggles, tree straps and the spare length of amsteel that I carry. It has a flap top and rolls up. With a couple of small pieces of Velcro to hold the flap closed, I hang it from the tarp ridgeline.

Having a pocket for everything and everything in a pocket, it makes sure that nothing is left behind and keeps everything I need to do set up in one spot.

I also use the bottom of a tyvek envelope. Stakes and guylines in the envelope wrapped in my tyvek ground cloth and placed in with the tarp/suspension in a mesh bag. You can see it tied off to my Swag, the blue topped bag, in this photo.

I cut down a Tyvek envelope and stitched it into a sleeve for my stakes and hammock suspension - keep in outside pocket. Both get pretty wet and muddy in the rain, so kept them separate from what I want to keep dry.

Making a new version in a different material soon, probably sil nylon.

I have a daddy caddy from member daddydaddy. Has all the groundhogs, extra line and a few continuous loops and such. I t keeps the dirt and debris localized and the gear easy to find. I keep it with the tarp outside of the main compartment. Have you considered smaller pegs, if yours will not fit in your top enclosure? You might even be able to shave some weight in the process.

Mine are kept in an old plastic mailing bag that something came in.

I store mine in a small nylon pouch, sharp side up.

Then, I wrap my Tyvek ground sheet around the pouch, and stuff it in the outside mesh pocket on my backpack (ULA Ohm 2.0).

The mesh pocket also contains my hammock and tarp, so everything I need to quickly set up camp is right there, and I don't need to open my pack.

That is a thing of beauty . I use a cut down Tyvek envelope, but had not considered sewing pockets for everything. Would really help ensure you collect it all when breaking camp, especially for those of us who are colorblind and use red stakes! Definitely adding this to the DIY list.

I just made a little bag to put them in and slide them into the side pocket of my pack with my cook kit. It keeps them away from anything they could possibly poke a hole in.

I got most of my system figured out, Hammock goes with my quilts in the pack. Tarp with the ridge line in a small dry bag in the lid of my rucksack. But what to do with my stakes? Most of them are too long to go in with the tarp, they are really awkward when you don't have anything really ridgid in your pack.

What do you do with them?

I usually wrap them in a square of tyvek, burrito style, which is also handy to stand on when changing clothes. Add a rubber band to keep it closed. A plastic pencil box works well for a bunch. Some travel-style toothbrush cases will work for a few small Ti stakes, as will some eyeglass cases.

I keep my stakes in a narrow little nylon sack with a tie closure. The sack goes into my strings/guylines/grizbeaks pocket nowhere near my tarp or hammock. I just don't want to risk an accidental puncture becuase I tend to cram grear into pockets.

I also try to use available tieouts (roots, stumps, ideally placed foliage) but won't hesitate to pull out the stakes. Having them easily accessable is really handy when it's raining and all you want to do is get under a tarp.

I just bought a set of Tough Stakes sand/snow stakes for winter camping. Normally I use branches, but I thought I'd give them a try.
