    CO>Colorado Trail Seg 3,2, optional 1>Spring MtnBike Hang>April, 26,27, optional 28th

After 4 pages of discussion in the bikepacking forum it looks like there is enough interest to post an official invite in the planning forum.
    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=88640

This will be the first Colorado Spring Hang for 2014

    I'm in!

Sounds great, looking forward to experience yet another way to enjoy the mountains!
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. Hang your own hammock from them as the winds blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. - John Muir (you know, all but the hammock part)

I am 80/20 in. I will have to assemble some panniers, etc, as I have never done this and am not really a mountain biker, so O&B I will hold you personally responsible for my safety and comfort. Sounds like a great trip and I hope I can get it together.

Several folks on this trip will be new to bikepacking. Although I would rate this trail intermediate
the plan is to take it slow and safe. What kind of bike do you have?

There are many ways to carry gear on a bike.
Hammock, tarp, and quilts can be stuffed in a drybag/s and straped on the seat.

Smaller drybags can be strapped to the handlebars.

Everything else can be carried in a small backpack.

Let me know if I can help.

    Want to trade bikes?

But seriously, thanks for the idea of strapping a drybag to the seat. I mean, I have seen it done before but not how you did it. I have panniers and can't stand them for touring so I use a small backpack and was considering a huge expensive seat bag. Your idea takes the expensive part out of the equation. I will keep following this thread and talk to vincethebutcher about potentially carpooling up.

I wish I had another mtn bike I could loan you. All 3 of my bikes and panniers are spoken for. I have never seen a roadbike on the CT and I ride there alot.
That said I think I could do it with the right tires and a very light gear load. Do you have flat petals? Clipping in could be a real pain.

2-12L drybags mounted on the seat, side by side, is an easy way to carry your hammock tarp and quilts.
I still prefer panniers they have never given me an issue.
This trail is not that rough and where it is rough I am usually going very slow or walking.
The panniers are also nice because you can carry a lot more water.
Access to water on this part of the CT is very iffy.
There is a stream at the beginning and a river at the end but not much inbetween.
I usually carry two 1/2 gal jugs one in each pannier plus a 1.5L bladder in my backpack.

I'm slowly getting my summer gear together for this trip and will post up picts of what
I am bringing to help other with their loadout.

I am about 80/20. It all depends on work schedule and wont know more until right before the time. Have been trying to get my gear ready. This was my trip last weekend.

Wow very nice flextoy. That looks like a complete Revelate Designs package.
They are one of my favorite bikebag makers.

Been doing bike maintenance over the weekend. Got my Yeti all tuned up and ready for the trip.
It's a bit of overkill for this trail but I'll make do.
