Survived the trip, see you guys on the Roan, bringing some noobs myself
Tacoma, glad you're thinking about coming. Me setting this up? Hardly! Just suggested the dates per Rivendell's suggestion of this hang.
We plan on getting there Friday evening, day hiking Saturday, packing up Sunday morning.
Speaking of hiking. If any would like to be shuttled to Hughes Gap so you can experience the climb up the back side of Roan on the AT let me know and I'll shuttle you Saturday morning. I'd hike it with you but since I've done it a hundred times and have the t-shirt I'll pass and offer shuttle for those who want to burn some calories
The dates are the same as was first posted Brother Bones so hope they don't conflict with John Rock.
Rumor has it that Rivendell will be unveiling the new modular Insulhammock? and I hope to be modeling the lightweight model Insulhammock.

This hang will conflict with the John Rock Hang. Bummer. I look forward to seeing the modular Insulhammock from Riven and CB.

Ask noobie Padawan if she wants to hike with me. If so, I will take you up on the shuttle

I did not see no posts for this hang in over a month. Yes the Jon Rock hang is the same weekend, since that was my wifes first hang we will be attending that one. Thanks.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

Yeah too bad about the John Rock conflict. Is what it is
But for those closer to Roan than John Rock all are invited.
Who knows we might even get a July snow on Roan. It's happened before.

I was there two weeks ago, the temps I would guess went down to the upper 40's. Hung near the top of Grassy bald and watch an incredible sun set and rise with my daughter. One of the best hike ever. Enjoy your trip.

Things 1,2 & 3 and I will be able to see you from Grandfather Mtn... we'll be at the Highland Games on Saturday, hanging in the Gorge Sat. night...

If we didn't have Things 2 & 3 with us, we could wander over to Roan Mtn on Sunday.

    Enjoy the altitude!

Mac, do you have a link to these highland games? Always sounded like something I'd like to see at least once.

Just got back from Grayson yesterday and while I'd love to do either of the hangs happening on this weekend I don't know I have it in me to travel that far AGAIN. Then again... my feet won't be sore in another day or two and I'll be ready for more.

My schedule looks favorable for that weekend so it looks like I may meander up the trail sometime that Friday or Saturday. Thinking back to the February hang there, I have memories of FIMB skiing down long sections of the ice encased trail with a full backpack on and navigating with only his trekking poles. His tennis shoes was his skis (no spikes) and he wore shorts and a short sleeve shirt. Seeing this, Roache later on got brave and decided to remove the microspikes from one of his boots, leaving spikes on the other boot. I never quite understood why. He paid for that one. Funny stuff seeing those two going down the trail that day. Glad no one got hurt.
