as far as a straw poll orange works for me. Just don't go to something stupid like Blue on Black! Like the old page better. YMMV ;-)

May I suggest a color scheme?

If the banner was green (and side fields a lighter green) then the HF logo would really pop and the overall effect would be easier on the eyes and soothing. Green and orange go together on the color circle as a pleasing contrast.

Then simple black on blue-gray for titles.

As it is the HF logo is lost.

More than 10% orange is just not pleasant. In study after study orange is shown to be the least favorite color.

Look around in nature. What do we find? Mostly blue and green.

But the green words on a gray background does not provide enough contrast. Therefore, it causes eye strain.

I think the vendors might not want their potential customers to be irritated.

It's not a matter of debate actually. Marketing research tells us that orange is not the color to use except sparingly as an accent.

The picture you've concocted there, Ratdog, is not at all what I suggested.

Web developers know what is meant by the banner.

    We've already seen a drop-off in posts.

I can almost guarantee that this orange crush will contribute to further decline.

Only the banner is orange with a gradient for me. The sides of the webpage are peach. More like the old website.
    I like it.

Ok, but if I'm not mistaken, HF has been mostly orange for a while? Membership numbers seem solid and increasing?

I know, but it was difficult to do the "banner" because of the gradient, at least given the amount of time I was willing to invest for a 'mock up' referencing a single post in a thread buried in a forum. Figured it was enough to convey the orange 'popping' against the green. But hey, if it's not appreciated, it's not appreciated.

Web developers know what is meant by the banner.
    sigh...

because of the orange??? haha well, anything is possible I suppose

    One more mockup for grins

The green mock up is better! It's not the number of members or even new looks -- its the one's that show up consistently (repeat customers), how long they stay, and whether they follow ads and links.

You just won't find a successful site that is dominant orange. Look at the vendor sites to see if any are orange. Like I said, it is not a matter of debate. It's a law of human nature.

According to this Orange sounds spot on for us.
