I definitely liked the blue "vb4 default style' better than the orange.

I think "branding" is a huge concern for commercial websites.
Seems to me that the HF website has orange as part of it's branding/style for some time, so I figure it's staying around. Not that it can't be tweaked along the way.
I'm thinking that the HF IT team took the decision to roll the upgrade out with loose ends and all, so that the membership would have access to the site while they tidy things up. That has led to a rolling list of "issues", "wants", "nice to have's", "what happened to?" And "where did my stuff go?" posts and threads.
In that todo list, color scheme is important because look and feel is huge, especially to the core group that spends hours online each day but at the same time, so long as it is reasonable, I would expect it to take a back seat to technical issues that are as yet unresolved. E.g. On a mobile device, the user home block is not displaying last login info.
No doubt there is a sizable punchlist.
Feedback of I like blue or I like orange is useful I suppose but if you are passionate enough and have definite ideas, maybe try mocking them up. A screenshot and paint program are enough to start. There are online vbulletin theme generators.
Perhaps a donating member benefit could be a custom theme option.
Maybe a poll to see how many members really care enough to comment.
30K members, 5K active members, 400-500 daily users, half logged in, half lurking and what, fewer than a couple dozen that have actually commented in this thread?
I'm all for orange, green and white around St Patty's day, but after that, I think HF's management has done alright managing the 'branding' of the site thus far.
Heck, they've kept it forum based instead of morphing into a psuedo social site using JomSocial with heavy Facebook integration and I think that could really bump the membership/activity level.

I still find the new look to be too hard on the eyes, too bright and too much contrast. It would be great if you could add some control for us to tone it down ,,,,,,or better still ,,,,,,,,,,come to your senses.
