    12 foot hammocks?!

I have submitted an order for 5 yards of 1.8 ripstop, so that I will have plenty of options for the length of my new diy hammock.

I'm 6'1", and I'd like to try a longer hammock than my 126x60 tablecloth. Is a 12 footer overkill? What length would you recommend?

I'm the same height. My xlc is 11 feet and more than adequate. YMMV.

If 12 ft makes you happy then 12 ft it is,, why not?

Well then you probably gotta get a bigger, heavier tarp. Just saying.

I'm 6'-0 and been using a DIY 12'-0" (before sewing channels) using 64" wide 1.1 MarPat from DIY Gear supply for over a year now, at home and in the field. Using the 83% rule for the ridge line, that comes out to 10'-0" at the ridge. My Hennessey Hex covers it just fine, in fact I have a harder time finding trees far apart enough for the tarp than I do for the hammock. I think I'm getting a flatter lay out of it than I did even in my HHDJ---which is a pretty big hammock, too. There's a calf ridge in it, but my legs go right past it when I'm on the diagonal. There's lots of fabric at the edges, but when I'm asleep I don't notice it.

I have a ten footer that is nice, an eleven footer that is divine, and I just made a friend a thirteen foot one from a table cloth that has been the best one I have ever used. I would try it, you can always go shorter if you find it is not want you want.

I have a customer who made a 12 footer and he seems to love it.

Thank you all for the help and things to ponder. I'll definitely need to get out the tarp to determine if I'll be getting wet toes, but I like the idea of at least trying the 12 footer. Then, if its too long, I can shorten it.
