Spent a night using this UQ, is seems to do pretty well.
I did notice a few points:
when I'm in the hammock , as the UQ forms around me, the baffles separate more getting closer to a traditional sewn through. Obviously this could create cold spots, It didn't last night but the weather was very good here (10C).
The fabric I used was pretty stiff and unyielding, I'm not sure if this is good or bad. I may wash it to see how it goes ( I need to wash the pen ink off anyway)
The colour is ghastly. I used my UQP just to hide it, It made the quilt feel like a big thick and warm baffled quilt (from what I can tell anyway)
All in all I'm pretty pleased with it, I may make a top quilt in a similar fashion.
Good to hear Scotty. I'm sure the UQP helped eliminate cold spots. I'm going to try my non-differential cut, sewn through this weekend! I think the hardest part is going to be getting it suspended with exactly the right amount of tension holding it under the hammock to keep max loft. I think I'll bring a backup just in case.
Sounds like you might benefit by turning the quilt upside-down? If the baffles are separating when it curves, then flipping it over would actually causes them to close up. Quick 'n dirty sketch attached ("0" is flat, "A" would be how you have it?) stuq.png
I assumed he would be using it more like this...IMGP2690.JPG
That would indeed help to close up the gaps. The reason for it being the other way is so that a can attach the UQ really tight up against hammock with no worries about the down being compressed. I'll certainly give it a try being hung the you way you decscribe and see how it works out though

To steal G-Rat's drawing, somehow attaching the mounting points on the 'top' baffles might help alleviate that? (red points, instead of blue points) 2.png
Ive added a few pictures to the fray;
Before loading

if the load was equal all over
