I am assuming that maybe the 1/8 slips in the cinch buckle and gets the alignment off or maybe thats wrong.
You want to go with the 5/32 for suspension use. Grizz actually had it break on him in that application, despite the strength rating. That almost certainly has to do with how tying knots in cording reduces the effective rating. The 5/32 rating is high enough that it has proven to be reliable.

Spyderline is a fine choice. Amsteel Blue is also popular on this forum, but either will certainly do the job.

Ok so I have everything I need and I have one final question...

I am using the larks head knot to attach the spider line to the buckle but what knot would everyone recommend to tie after running the line through the channeling?

    Thanks again for everyone's help.

Tie a bowline knot around back around the standing end of the cording. It works well.

Awesome thanks guys! Again you all have been a huge help and my buckle system is all set for my trip this weekend. Thanks again for everyone's help, I can't wait to try it out and be laying in my hammock before my buddies have theirs tied up with the stock rope.

Love to see some pics when you are done! I am a newbie and just bought a Grand Trunk. I am going to ditch the rope system it comes with and was thinking of using this system.

    Thanks

I replaced my Speer straps with cinch buckles on the hammock end, and then a double ended loop polyester strap from Strapworks. Cut the strap in half and had the perfect setup. The photo is of the remainder of the hammock strap cut about 15" from the hammock, placed through the cinch buckle and then sewn with double box stitches with added "X" stiches... way overkill, but I got carried away.

I will be happy to post some pics, I will post them in my trip report early next week. So not on this thread but I'll get them up there. I tested earlier tonight and everything looks great.

Now in light of my test my range of trees I can hang between is far greater than before and outreaches my tarp by a long way.

Just out of curiosity does anyone use a different system for their tarp or do you all just tie it up with simple knots?
