Hey Jon, if you're a handy DIYer, you could easily make some 3 season UQs for yourselves on the cheap using military surplus poncho liners. You can usually pick one up for under $25, and theultimatehang.com has a no-sew how-to guide: http://theultimatehang.com/2013/01/d...ew-and-no-sew/
The sewn version is better overall, but if you're not good with a sewing machine, it's an alternative. Have a look, and let me know if you have any questions.
I have not made a poncho liner uq but i have made a couple underquilts made from the military patrol bag. full length and really wide weighs about 20 25 oz. good to 30 ish degrees. the patrol bag has climashield for insulation too.
Support the DIY option if you have the skill, sewing machine and time. If not I think the best bang for the buck is the Arrowhead Equipment Jarbridge underquilt. I have one for each of my daughters. They sleep very well wrapped in their Jarbridge.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the strength to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
