Why camo?

I live in place where there's a threat of future invasion, so i'm thinking about getting camo hammock and tarp for myself, but overall, I'm really confused.
Just want to ask what are the benefits of camo pattern?

Ok, but really, I can understand it's a benefit in places where hammocking is restricted but is there any such place? If you are a hunter of wild photographer then swinging in a hammock would really mess with your aim.

Personally i don't see any reasons to hide from people and what comes to animals, the more aggressive color the smaller the change of animals running into your hammock, so, why camo?

Less visual impact, easier to overlook, easier to enjoy the view without people walking up to you and asking what the heck did you set up (seen this A LOT with t**t dwellers coming out to the bright colored hammocks and tarps)

I like SnrMoment's reason in comment #3. My late Father taught me to mark my return trail with one quick swing of a machete, over turned leaf/branch but this is not very earth friendly, flashing tape is modern equivalent.
Camo is only one component of your attempt to see and hear and enjoy nature/wildlife, and possibly take some great photos. More important is to be very quiet, make a good site selection down wind etc. Reduce your smell from waste disposal. Elevation if you can do so safely. And many other factors that this thread and forum are not ment to address. But why camo? #1 reason for me is to enjoy wildlife more!

I too like subdued colors because they are easier on the eye. My tarp is merely dark green and the other brown. If I really needed to disappear I would probably try to break up the silhouette of the tarp with vegetation or something.

If you use camo and black you can pretend you are Rambo. ;-)

On a serious note visual impact will be similar if you use earth tones for your area. Only you can choose them as only you know where you camp. Straight lines are as big an issue as color choices. Learn how to break up the outline with added brush or other bits.

I left the US Army, Airborne Infantry, after 12 years in 99 and foreswore the wearing, use of, or general association with any form of "camouflage" ever again. That said, I do prefer earth tones because I do not like to stand out and do like to be able to "disappear" when I need to.
Now, I recently purchased a kayak. I wanted a "angler" yak, with a high capacity payload. I have a VERY bad leg, from military service, and cannot do long hikes so bicycle and float camping are what is open to me. The only color options, in the model I settled on, were canary yellow and camo. I just could not abide "canary yellow" so I broke my rule on camo and now, my yak and everything with it is camouflage. Bah! It was forced on me however!

I like to tree climb and being less visible is extremely useful when setting up a hammock there. No risk of passerby's questioning my safety. That being said I try to avoid camo because a) it tends to be more expensive, b) heavier, and c) if I'm told that I'm not allowed to camp where I am (in a tree or otherwise), it will be less incriminating for me to go with solid colours.

I go camping to drop off the face of the earth.
