    Tarp door styles?

I'm in the planning stages of making a 4-season tarp. There seem to be 3 basic styles of doors. Ones that just close the space between the tie outs, ones that come out to the end of the ridge, and those that go past it. With each step out you get more dry/protected area but you also have more weight. So, my question is, which style do you use? Why? And do you wish you had gone with something larger or smaller?

Maybe my question wasn't clear so I tried drawing some pictures. I'm no artist but this hopefully will give a better idea of the different styles I'm wondering about.

I like the bottom model. The two top pics are the only style I've seen.

Having a vestibule at least on one end is very nice for extra storage space.
It also allows you to move the hammock deeper in the tarp giving you more protection.
So for me I'd do 1 set of oversized doors. Second set of doors optional I'd probably never use them.YMMV

Something like that had also crossed my mind. What type of dimensions do you use for your vestibule end?

Every tarp is cut a little different and you should find your favorite pitch angle then you can use string to get the perfect vestibule dimensions.
    Does that make sense?

Yup, that makes sense. My problem is that I'm trying to incorporate this into a tarp that isn't built yet. Do you find that you tend to pitch all tarps at the same angle?

Over the last two winters I did a lot of snowload testing to find the pitch that would shed snow without tapping.
I found 90 degrees gave me the most room under and the snow would fall off on its own.
So I would pick 90 and design around that for a vestibule. hth

O&B, I've read many of your winter testing threads and have a fair idea what you're talking about. I think a 90° design is what it will be unless someone comes up with a compelling argument otherwise.

Have you played around with vestibule depths at all?

Yes before the 12x14 hot tarp. I made a hot vestibule for a standard 12x10 tarp that had 1 set of std doors and this...
The stove determined how deep the vestibule needed be. I needed space behind and a distance from the hammock. How deep a vestibule you will want or need I don't know.

Notice the string on the far end of blk tarp its to determine the depth and dimensions of the vestibule.
I can give you those measurement if you think it will help.

I hope I am not coming off like some kind of gods gift to tarps? Cause I'm not.
Just tossing out what I have been doing in the back yard and hoping it will help.
