If you hang in Vermont, wouldn't you get maple syrup on your straps?

I occasionally park my car under a large pine tree that constantly drips sap onto it. I learned a long time ago from a guy that details cars that plain old rubbing alcohol removes the sticky sap very easily (Disclaimer; it also removes the wax finish). And a lot of us carry denatured alcohol already in your packs, so the solution is closer than you think! If there're really bad you could soak them in a ziplock, and since it's just alcohol it dries real fast.

I ended up ordering a JRB double ended stuff sack and just shoving my cinch buckles, straps and carabiners in it while they were still attached to the hammock. Good thing too cause last weekend I hung in a red spruce grove. It worked great so I think I've found a permanent solution!

Exactly how does this prevent the sap from getting on your hammock? If your straps have sap on them and you are stuffing them together with the hammock, seems you would transfer the sap to the inside of the bag as well as the hammock. I suppose you could pack the straps in plastic bags before stuffing them into the stuff sack. I prefer to have detachable suspension and tree straps, that way individual parts are able to be cleaned or laundered as needed. Throw those sappy tree straps into the washer and they clean up very well. HYOH!

Looks like a second bag next to the hammock bag... Could even strap them together to avoid them pulling each other out

I put my straps in a little ziplock bag once i roll them up until they get cleaned at home, but just think of all that sap as a built in air freshener.

lanejustin is exactly right. There are two separate stuff sacks. One holds the hammock, the JRB stuff sack holds the cinch buckle suspension from the d-rings out. The JRB stuff sack (small) is just long enough to cinch around the d-rings on the outside of the Warbonnet stuff sack. Does that make sense?

I prefer to pack with the suspension still connected to the hammock for a quicker set up.
