    Soft Shackle Calc

Anybody using soft shackles for things? I've recently started splicing and want to make a couple. What im thinking is for my superfly I will use a soft shackle for the doors to keep them together. Then make another line with a fixed loop and just bury the other end, and have that fixed line go to a stake so I can easily open and close the doors without messing with knots in the middle of the night. Granted its fun to see what knot I retied in the morning, but something more user friendly when I'm not all there might be easier.

Anybody doing anything similar or have other good uses with hammocks?

Also, I found this calculator on making soft shackles with a good how to video.

I use them with my whoopie sling/treestrap suspension for my day hike hammock.

Tree strap soft shackled to whoopies, whoopie soft shackled to continuous loops.

I don't think I would want to deal with a fiddly soft shackle in the middle of the night when I needed out fast. Sounds like a good use for a mini-biner or just shock cord to the stake so I didn't have to undo anything.

I use them and would recommend trying them out, but maybe not for the doors. I suspect that using them for the doors would get old fast, but then again that might not bother you. I know there are several ways to make soft shackles and that you could make ones, that don't require splicing out of shock cord.

    what he said.

I use a quilt hook prusiked to some shock cord. Lets me quickly and easily hook it to the corner tieouts to close it, clip the together around the tree or to the stakes or even to separate stakes.

I use a Niteize nylon .5 S-biner on loop of zing-it prusik. I don't necessarily have to unhook them, just slide the prusik slack and step through.

Granted it's kind of an unusual setup but I don't need to put any lines on my doors, simply use the slack line on the corner guylines to handle the doors.

I don't regularly use a soft shackle, but I keep one on each end of my hammock in the loop of the whoopie sling instead of a bead...they come in handy for different things and are easy and strong, weigh little, take up little room.
